Information and Preparation Instructions
Please arrive in the Radiology department prior to the exam for the admissions process. A nuclear medicine technologist will greet you for the appointment. A small intravenous line (I.V.) will be started by the technologist for the exam. A small amount of blood will be drawn from the I.V. in order to be tagged with a radioactive tracer. The I.V. will remain in place for later reinjection. You will be able to leave and return 3 to 4 hours later to be injected with the tagged blood. You will return for imaging at 6 and 24 hours post injection. During these wait times, you may eat or drink as usual and resume normal activities. Imaging will be approximately 45 minutes each time.
