When Linda Lee gave birth to her first child, Andrew, she had no idea it would be three months early. Linda developed severe preeclampsia and was admitted to the ER 6 months into her pregnancy. Four days later, her labor was induced and Andrew was born. Weighing just over 1 pound, Andrew was required to stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Swedish Medical Center.
“When you first leave your newborn in the NICU it’s a very emotional experience,” said Linda, who returned to work in order to save her maternity leave for when Andrew is ready to go home. It’s a decision many parents with babies in the NICU are forced to make. But lucky for Linda, there was a high-tech option.
