Developing relationships with your peers and the medical community is just as important as developing your skills at practicing medicine. Our residency program offers you the opportunity to do both in a warm, supportive environment in one of the most beautiful states! When you are not at work, there is also plenty to do both indoors and out. Read below for some of the great opportunities and experiences our residents have had.
Each July, residents and their families sneak away for a weekend in our beautiful mountains. Residents spend time learning about each other and their families. Time is devoted to interactive activities, exercise, enjoying the tranquil surroundings and panoramic views and discussions about how to balance medical responsibilities and personal well-being. The resident retreat is a highlight of the year for all residents because it is the one time of the year when all residents can share quality time together.
Each year we get away to get to know the interns a little better. We spend time learning about each other’s family and culture, exploring our personal strengths, and discussing how to balance medical responsibilities and personal well-being. We then head outdoors for some fresh air, sunshine and exercise. The intern retreat is a highlight of residency for each class because it gives interns an opportunity to get to know their classmates for the next three years. Previous years have included visits to Chautauqua Park in Boulder, and currently we visit the beautiful Chatfield Botanic Gardens, located in Littleton.
Nearly 300 Days of Sunshine
Colorado enjoys nearly 300 days of sunshine a year. That means there’s a good chance that your days off will be gorgeous, whether it is winter or summer. The SFMR facilities are a short drive away from crystal clear mountain lakes, rugged hiking trails, and wide open prairies, so you are sure to find yourself in the middle of nature!
