Certified nurse midwife services in Denver

Swedish Medical Center provides nurse-midwifery services for women of all ages. If you think a midwife best suits your health needs and goals, our certified nurse midwives (CNM) are available to help you care for yourself through support, education and clinical excellence.

What is a midwife?

CNMs are experts trained in both nursing and midwifery that are held to rigorous standards of practice set by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM).

One of the primary reasons someone might choose to use a midwife is to experience childbirth as naturally as possible. Midwives at Swedish use a unique blend of traditional medicine and complementary or alternative therapies. The blend you receive is completely up to you. Many people believe that if you include a midwife in your birthing plan, you are expected to deliver only at home. However, more than 90% of our midwife-assisted births are in a hospital, and our HealthONE midwives don’t do home births. It also doesn’t mean you have to have a natural childbirth. You are also able to choose medicinal assistance or anesthesia.

What can a midwife do for me?

If you are pregnant or hope to become pregnant, our midwives will care for you before, during and after your pregnancy, consulting with an obstetrician when necessary. Plus, when you deliver at Swedish, you and your baby will have access to the most advanced medical technology.

Whether helping during childbirth or though the transition into menopause or perimenopause, our midwives are here for you every step of the way, supporting you while you move through life’s stages.
