Frances Mackey was waiting to go to a lactation class with her two week old newborn when she suffered a massive ischemic stroke in Spearfish, South Dakota. She was discovered by her instructor and presented at Spearfish Regional Hospital, a Swedish telestroke site. Hospital staff performed a tele-consult with a Swedish stroke neurologist and tPa, a clot busting drug, was administered. Frances was flown from Spearfish to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado where Swedish neuro-interventional radiologists performed a thrombectomy. Frances is now living with her sweet baby girl, Huckleberry, in Sundance, WY. Frances returned to work just 8 weeks after having suffered a stroke.
